KS4 Project

There is an ongoing project being carried out on behalf of the Association for Physical Education to gather evidence of good practice in Key Stage 4 Physical Education provision. Our goal is to develop a bank of information/examples of best practice to be shared across the profession. Those providing such evidence will be fully acknowledged in the documentation produced.

The project is seeking information related to:

  • Promoting participation at KS4
  • Increasing girls participation
  • Protecting and increasing time for PE at KS4
  • Innovative approaches to curriculum content, design and delivery at KS4
  • Flexible use of facilities
  • Development of partnerships including the local community to enhance opportunities
  • Improving learning in and through PE
  • Identifying, supporting and developing those with talent in PE.

If you are aware of any examples of good practice in your school, partnership or Local Authority please contact Professor Richard Bailey (r.bailey@roehampton.ac.uk) giving a brief description of the practice being implemented.

The National PE and School Sport Professional Development Programme is managed by the Consortium Management Group which consists of Youth Sport Trust, Association for PE (afPE) and sports coach UK (scUK).

Practical activities to help you achieve your target

The programme aims to support the implementation of the high level targets within the overall PE, Sport Strategy, and Young People strategy outlined by the DCSF. The programme forms one of the nine strands of the PESSYP national strategy and is designed to provide a tool for the Local Authority and PESSYP infrastructure of Specialist Sports Colleges and School Sports Partnerships to meet their aims in delivering the five hour offer.
